Guy Pinder, Sales Manager, Dawsondirect
Where are you from originally and where do you live now?

I’m Sheffield born and bred and still live there now.

What was your first job?

At 14, I wanted to earn some money, so I got a Saturday job at a butcher’s in Castle Market in Sheffield city centre. I travelled there and back by bus and worked 10 hours (with no breaks) for £8 a day. I did consider being a butcher, but I changed my mind!

What job(s) did you have before joining Dawsongroup?

I’ve been in the commercial vehicle industry for over 25 years. During that time, I’ve spent ten years at Mercedes-Benz, three years at Northside Truck & Van (Mercedes-Benz dealer) and three years at Evans Halshaw (DAF dealer).

When did you join Dawsongroup?

I joined Dawsongroup in June 2024.

What’s your current job and what does it involve?

I’m a Sales Manager, which involves working with new and existing customers, building relationships and providing quality used trucks and trailers that meet their requirements.

What’s been the highlight of your career?

There have been a few, but probably my first ever used truck deal when I supplied 80 Mercedes-Benz tractor units to an end user contract hire business in Livingston, Scotland.

Who or what has been the main influence in your career?

My Mam. She’s always been there for me and, at 72, she’s still the best person I go to for any advice, and she’s great at just listening.

What’s your initial impression of working for Dawsongroup?

I love it! Everyone goes the extra mile to help each other, and the business really cares about its staff.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love spending time with my family and friends, travelling abroad and eating out – especially fish, seafood and Chinese. I also watch football, rugby league and boxing.

I live about 20 minutes from Bramhall Lane and used to be a Sheffield United season ticket holder. My favourite rugby league team is Hull FC because a friend of mine is a keen supporter. In boxing, I admire Ricky Hatton; he was such a fantastic fighter.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

While fishing once, my dad tried to teach me how to cast the rod. I forgot to let go of the line on the reel and ended up in the lake!

What’s on your bucket list?

To take my wife Karen to Thailand; it’s always been a dream of mine to go there.

What’s your favourite book or film – or genre?

The Godfather films, especially The Godfather Part II – such a fantastic cast and a great storyline featuring two parallel dramas in the world of American organised crime.

What annoys you in life?

People being unkind.

What’s your biggest regret?

Life’s too short for regrets!
